ALLEGHANY CHAPTER
Blacksburg, Virginia
Welcome to the Alleghany Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
We are located in Blacksburg, Virginia, home of the Virginia Tech Hokies. The first settlement in the area was Drapers Meadow, established in 1749. The Drapers Meadow Massacre took place in 1755 when Mary Ingles was captured by Indians and made her well known return journey by following the New River. Blacksburg was established in 1798 when William Black deeded a tract of land to the town. In 1851 Olin and Preston Institute was founded, which became Virginia Agriculture and Mechanical College in 1872, now Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
